An UvA Political Science alumni was arbitrarily detained and severely tortured in Tora Prison in Egypt for a song he had no involvement in. I thus independently developed and carried out a (successful) international campaign to get him released. This campaign involved: - The international outreach to and coordination with human rights organisations, including Amnesty International (Egypt Desk and the Netherlands), Human Rights Watch, EuroMed Rights, Artists at Risk, amongst others - The lobbying of political institutions, including the Dutch Embassy in Egypt, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The German Embassy in Egypt, The United National Human Rights Commission, The UN Working group of Arbitrary Detention, the German Parliament, the Dutch Embassy in Cairo, German Parliament, Dutch parliament, European Commission, European Parliament, French parliament - The direct lobbying and negotiation with the political offices of the German Chancellor Merkel, the President Macron and President Trump. - Interviews and media outreach, including coverage in all the Dutch newspapers, in German, Italian and French presses.
